Polyphonic ringtones were the second generation ringtone, and a major improvement over monophonic tones. The phone has a synthesizer which can reproduce fairly well the sound of a number of different instruments. Also, it can play more than one note at a time, so you can have rhythm and melody played together. The overall effect is similar to that of a programmable music keyboard.
